Letter from the Editor

The IACFS/ME is proud to present the Summer issue of the Bulletin!  This issue is truly special to us, because it represents the global reach of our society with submissions from scientists working in the United Kingdom, New Zealand, and the United States.  Dr. Arroll (UK) re-examines the issue of CFS subgrouping from a data analytic point of view, but adds a focus on illness severity.  In a paper utilizing accepted qualitative research methods, Dr. Royle (NZ) provides us with insights into why integrated behavioral group therapy might lead to improvements in fatigue and quality of life.  Finally, Dr. Shoemaker addresses the importance of differentiating between CFS-like illnesses in a pediatric sample.  Specifically, he argues that identification of Water-Damaged-Building (WDB) Illness in a subset of children diagnosed with CFS based on the 2006 pediatric case definition could facilitate treatment.

I am happy to report that the number of international, high quality submissions to the IACFS/ME Bulletin continues to increase.  In addition, the breadth of topics submitted to the Bulletin is expanding providing us with the opportunity to report on CFS as well as other conditions and syndromes with CFS-like symptoms.  Thus, the Bulletin is increasingly selected by researchers and clinician researchers studying and reporting on CFS and other fatigue-related conditions.  Thus an application for Medline indexing is a real and viable possibility in the near future.

The fall issue will feature a new section – Letters to the Editor.  For this section, we invite brief, critical comments on previously published articles in an effort to continue to expand and invigorate the appeal of the Bulletin to our readership.

Have a great summer!

Sincerely,
Gudrun Lange, PhD
Editor
